A project to reconstruct the floor plan of a grandparents’ house,
visited every summer, based on memories.
Family members—including an aunt, cousin, father, great-aunt,
and second cousin—were interviewed about their recollections of the house.
A few days later, a small gathering took place with the cousin, aunt,
and father to compare hand-drawn floor plans. As the drawings were laid out, stories were
exchanged, and memories of the house’s structure and spatial layout were shared.
Photographs of the house’s former site, family memories, and several hand-drawn floor plans
were compiled and brought to an architect for collaboration.
Through a process of revisiting and examining these memories,
a final floor plan of the "house in memory" was created.
The work presents the reconstructed floor plan, photographs taken in front of the grandparents’
house in earlier years, and a video (27 min 34 sec)
documenting the entire process.
